Hair advice from our chairs

Simple habits that keep your style fresh for longer and your natural hair healthy underneath.

✦

Sleep on silk or satin

Wrap braids and cornrows in a satin scarf or bonnet, or use a silk pillowcase. Cotton pulls moisture and causes frizz — satin keeps your style neat for weeks longer.

✦

Moisturise the scalp, not the braid

Every 2–3 days, spritz a light leave-in or water-and-oil mix on your scalp and lightly oil your edges. Avoid heavy grease build-up, which attracts dust and causes itching.

✦

Know when to take them out

Braids and cornrows are best kept 4–6 weeks (cornrows 2–3 weeks). Keeping them longer risks matting, breakage and thinning edges. Book your take-down & treatment with us.

✦

Be gentle with your edges

Use a soft brush and edge gel sparingly. Avoid tight ponytails on top of braids — tension over time leads to traction alopecia.

★

Little heads need gentle care

Choose low-tension styles for children and avoid very tight braids. If your child complains of pain or you see bumps, loosen the style and let us know.

★

Satin bonnet at bedtime

A satin bonnet keeps kids’ cornrows and beads tidy through the week. Re-secure loose beads to avoid choking hazards for toddlers.

★

Wash day made easy

Wash kids’ hair every 1–2 weeks with a gentle shampoo, detangle with conditioner from ends to roots, and seal with a light oil.

◆

Treat every 2–4 weeks

A protein or moisture treatment every 2–4 weeks keeps hair strong and elastic — especially before braiding or after relaxing. Ask your stylist which your hair needs.

◆

Give your hair a break

Rest 1–2 weeks between protective styles. Use that time for a deep treatment, trim and scalp care.

◆

Heat with protection

Always use a heat protectant before blow-drying, flat-ironing or curling, and keep tools on a medium setting.

❖

Wig & weave care

Wash your unit every 2–3 weeks with sulphate-free shampoo, detangle gently from the ends, and store on a wig stand. Keep the hair underneath braided flat and moisturised.

❖

Keep curls bouncy

Refresh curls with a little mousse or curl cream, and pineapple your hair at night under a satin scarf.
